TRAILBLAZER STUDIOS PRODUCES SHOW FOR STANLEY CUP
RALEIGH-BASED PRODUCTION COMPANY PROVIDES LAST-MINUTE POST-PRODUCTION FOR NATIONAL FEATURE DURING STANLEY CUP
RALEIGH, NC – A national feature story which aired on ESPN during the Stanley Cup Finals was post-produced by Trailblazer Studios. Connecticut-based ESPN/ABC producer Brian Liburd flew to Raleigh to cover a story on deadline that was to be aired the same day on ESPN’s “Quest for the Cup” show. With no time to lose, the producer had trouble finding a studio with the equipment he needed to finish his program. He called the newly formed Trailblazer Studios.
“I had a feature to edit with digital tape, an industry staple, and I needed a place that had all the bells and whistles I was used to working with.,” said Liburd. “I first spoke to Hal Goodtree, the executive producer, he said the magic words I like to hear, ‘what do you need?’”
Trailblazer Studios’ editor George Kelly and Dave Hogan, assistant editor, put together a two-minute pre-game show on two coaches, Paul Maurice and Scotty Bowman before game number three of the Stanley Cup. Working on a tight deadline was nothing new for Kelly who has edited spots for the ACC, the NFL and the Yellow Pages. “It’s always exciting to edit for a show that you know millions will be watching just hours away,” said Kelly.
Headquartered in Raleigh with development studios in Dallas, Trailblazer Studios was formed when four other production companies combined in April of this year. The company is owned by Rick Duffield, the creator and executive producer of the award-winning children’s television show WISHBONE, and Tom Waring, the former CFO of Lyrick Corporation, the company behind BARNEY and WISHBONE.
With the Southeast’s first Cyborg, a special effects system and the Carolina’s first AVID high-definition editing system plus 6,000 square feet of studio production space, Trailblazer Studios is making a name for itself nationally in the production industry.
“I have been to countless post-houses all over North America,” said Liburd, “and Trailblazer Studios is run like the shops in New York, Chicago or L.A.”
